The end of the Red Road

Yet another Modernist housing estate is to be given the, as Charles Jencks would put it, “coup de grace by dynamite“. Red Road flats in Glasgow are due to be pulled down on Sunday (10th June). However as this article  from the Guardian

The Good Life

The 70s revisited

The BBC has just started a four-part series simply entitled ‘The 70s’, Mondays 9pm BBC2, the first  provided a interesting reading by historian Dominic Sandbrook of the role of the 1970s in normalising the social change of the 1960s. It

Wythenshawe Forum (c.1975) deserted as well as isolated it would seem?

Wythenshawe isolated?

Although the spoof new site NewsManc is pretty funny, I think most residents of Wythenshawe already see their area and thoroughly isolated from the rest of Manchester. Built as a Garden Suburb in the 1920s, modelled on Ebenezer Howard’s Garden

Going up?

Another, this time interesting, BBC article about the future of tower blocks “Viewpoint: could people learn to love tower blocks” Now I live in tower block, admittedly a refurbished, privately owned one (not that I own my flat) and not
